Data is/are fundamental to making any decision. The Open Water Foundation (OWF) uses public datasets and implements open data solutions to maximize data access and transparency. This approach facilitates collaboration on important issues and supports free market solutions that are based on equal access to data.
Data by itself is limited in value. However, providing context to data results in information that can be used to inform decisions. OWF applies its knowledge about various data sources and data processing tools to create useful datasets. See the data.openwaterfoundation.org website for specific datasets maintained by OWF, including a dataset for Colorado Municipal Water Providers (see map below) maintained in a public GitHub repository.
OWF provides the following products and services related to data:
- creating and maintaining useful datasets, including aggregating datasets from multiple sources and jurisdictions
- implementing automated workflows to process datasets
- advising on data collection, management, and publication solutions
- implementing cost-effective cloud hosting solutions for datasets to ensure public access
- solutions for time series and spatial datasets
- creating datasets based on public data to support due diligence for policy and business decisions
- datasets and visualizations for education, outreach and collaboration
