Education

“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.”Stephen Hawking

The Open Water Foundation (OWF) mission intersects with water resources, information technologies, and other topics. Software technologies are numerous, evolve rapidly, and can be difficult to standardize and integrate. Water resources issues are complex due to history, geography, water law and regulations, infrastructure and operations, and many other issues.

OWF supports education by publishing educational materials on the learn.openwaterfoundation.org website. Most of OWF’s work is open and is published on our website and in public GitHub source code repositories.

OWF also supports education by using data, information, software, and other products to implement educational resources for communities and organizations. For example, the Poudre Basin Information (open in new tab) website provides education to the public, boards, commissions, and city councils. Water leader programs can also leverage the information to provide context for regional water issues.

OWF provides the following products and services for education:

  • training on software products and technologies
  • supporting the use of open source software in education (see software.openwaterfoundation.org)
  • online resources can be used to educate about water issues:
  • new resources can be developed or existing resources can be enhanced to help with specific education needs such as community outreach for a specific project
  • educational resources can be developed for specific organizations to support staff education and onboarding
  • OWF staff regularly participate in conferences and presentations, help students with projects, and participate in community events
